BIO:

Veronika Gruntovskaya is a Montreal-based painter specializing in large-scale figurative works on canvas and raw plywood. Drawn to the physical energy of working on a monumental scale, she maps her compositions entirely by eye—allowing the intuitive, hand-drawn lines to guide the rhythm and soul of each piece.
Deeply rooted in her Ukrainian heritage, Gruntovskaya’s practice is driven by a profound cultural reverence for the resilience, history, and quiet strength of older generations. Believing that elders hold an invaluable repository of wisdom through their lived experiences, she views them as vital muses and guides who connect our past to the next generation. For her, putting these stories on a grand scale is an act of deep gratitude.
Through her Golden Agers series, she translates modern, candid photographic moments into vibrant narrative paintings. By capturing her subjects living completely unbothered and in their element, Gruntovskaya celebrates the fierce dignity of a demographic that contemporary culture too often overlooks, granting them the monumental space they truly deserve
"Growing up, I was guided by strong, wise elders who shaped my foundation. I paint them at a monumental scale because we would not be here without them—they deserve to be our muses." — Veronika
